Before you publish this: this draft is written specifically for how Verified Artisan actually operates — the offer/counter-offer bargaining flow, verification levels, and Paystack-based payments all reflect the real app, not generic boilerplate. It has been filled in with your business details and a recommended commission and cancellation policy (see Sections 6 and 7) — review those two numbers and confirm they're what you actually want to charge, then have a lawyer familiar with Nigerian consumer and contract law review the whole document — particularly the liability and dispute sections — before it governs real transactions. This is a starting point, not legal advice.

Terms of Service — Verified Artisan

Last updated: October 1, 2026 · Applies to the Verified Artisan mobile app and related services

These terms govern your use of Verified Artisan, an app that connects customers with independent local artisans (plumbers, electricians, and other tradespeople) for on-demand and scheduled services. By creating an account, you agree to these terms.

1. Who we are

Verified Artisan is operated by Verified Artisan Nigeria Limited, registered in Lagos State, Nigeria. Questions about these terms can be sent to verifiedartisannigerialimited@gmail.com.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use Verified Artisan, whether as a customer or as an artisan. By registering, you confirm this is true.

3. Two kinds of accounts

4. Verification isn't a guarantee

Artisans appear with a verification level — from identity and phone checks up to in-person skill assessment — shown on their profile. This reflects the checks we completed at the time, not an ongoing guarantee of their work, conduct, or availability. Use your own judgment, especially for higher-value jobs, and review an artisan's ratings and completed job history before booking.

5. How a job works

A customer describes a job and may receive offers from nearby artisans, or request a specific one; prices are agreed through in-app bargaining before work begins. Once a price is accepted, the job proceeds through the stages shown in the app (accepted, en route, in progress, completed). Either party can message the other inside the app to coordinate details.

6. Payments

7. Cancellations and disputes

Either party can cancel a job at no cost at any time before the artisan starts heading to the job. Once an artisan has started traveling to the job (marked "en route" in the app), a customer who cancels forfeits the artisan's stated callout fee, to compensate the artisan for their time and travel; the remaining payment, if any was already made, is refunded. An artisan who cancels after accepting a job, without the customer's agreement, charges no cancellation fee and may affect their standing on the platform. Once work has actually started ("in progress"), a job is no longer simply cancellable — raise it as a dispute instead using the contact below. If something goes wrong with a job, contact us at verifiedartisannigerialimited@gmail.com and we'll review the case. We may request evidence (messages, photos, payment records) from both sides before deciding.

8. Reviews

Only a customer or artisan who completed a job together can leave a review for that job. Reviews must reflect a genuine experience — don't offer, request, or write a review for a job that didn't happen, or in exchange for payment or favors.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We can suspend or close an account that violates these terms, or where we reasonably believe it poses a risk to other users.

10. Our role

Verified Artisan provides the platform that connects customers and artisans — we are not a party to the job itself, and artisans are not our employees. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for the quality, safety, timing, or legality of work performed by an artisan, or for a customer's conduct, except where we've committed to something specific elsewhere in these terms (such as payment processing itself working correctly). This section doesn't limit any liability that can't be excluded under Nigerian law.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app changes, and will update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of Nigerian courts, unless otherwise required by applicable law.
