Before you publish this: this draft is generated from exactly what the Verified Artisan app's own database and code actually collect (see supabase/schema.sql) — not generic boilerplate. It has been filled in with your business details, but have a lawyer familiar with Nigerian data protection law (the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and NDPC regulations) review it before it governs real users — this document is a starting point, not legal advice.

Privacy Policy — Verified Artisan

Last updated: October 1, 2026 · Applies to the Verified Artisan mobile app and related services

Verified Artisan ("we," "us," "the app") connects customers with local artisans (plumbers, electricians, and other tradespeople) for on-demand services, and processes payment for that work. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it's handled — for customers, artisans, and anyone else who uses the app.

1. Who we are

Verified Artisan is operated by Verified Artisan Nigeria Limited, registered in Lagos State, Nigeria. For any privacy question or request, contact us at verifiedartisannigerialimited@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

Exactly what we collect depends on how you use the app:

Category	What we collect	Why
Account information	Name, email address, phone number, password (stored securely, never in plain text)	Creating and securing your account, signing in, contacting you about your jobs
Location	Where a job is happening (captured once, if you allow it, when you submit a request); a linked artisan's live GPS position while they're heading to or working on a job	Showing the job's location and live tracking on a map; matching you with nearby artisans
Photos and documents	A photo of your bank transfer receipt (customers, if you pay by transfer); a photo of your ID or trade certificate (artisans, when registering)	Verifying payment; verifying an artisan's identity and trade before they're approved to take jobs
Payment and financial information	Card payments and wallet top-ups are processed by our payment processor, Paystack — we never see or store your full card number. Artisans' bank account numbers and names are stored to pay them for completed jobs.	Processing payments; paying artisans their share of a job
Messages	Chat messages you send another user about a job	Letting a customer and their artisan coordinate a job
Job and usage information	Requests you make, offers and prices agreed, job status and history, ratings	Running the core service — matching, bargaining, tracking, and a record of past jobs
Device and push notification data	A device token used to deliver push notifications (job updates, new messages)	Notifying you about things that need your attention

3. How we use your information

To provide the core service: matching customers with artisans, tracking a job from request to completion, and processing payment.
To communicate with you: push notifications and, where applicable, email about your account or a job.
To keep the platform safe: reviewing artisan applications, investigating disputes, and preventing fraud.
To meet legal obligations, such as record-keeping for payments.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data to show you third-party advertising.

4. Who we share information with

The other party on a job. A customer and their artisan can see each other's name, and — once a job is confirmed — can message and (for live tracking) see location, so the job can actually happen.
Paystack, our payment processor, handles card and bank transfer processing. Their own privacy policy governs how they handle payment details.
Supabase, our backend and database provider, stores app data on our behalf under a data-processing arrangement — they don't use it for their own purposes.
Law enforcement or regulators, only where required by law.
We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

5. Data retention

We keep account and job information for as long as your account is active, and for a period afterward as needed for legal, tax, or dispute-resolution purposes (typically 6 years, in line with standard financial recordkeeping practice in Nigeria). You can request deletion of your account at any time — see Section 7.

6. Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (and equivalent laws if you use the app from elsewhere), you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
Ask us to delete your account and associated personal data, subject to what we're legally required to keep.
Withdraw consent for optional data collection (like location) at any time — the app will keep working, with reduced functionality where noted above (for example, no destination pin on the tracking map).
Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) or your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these, contact verifiedartisannigerialimited@gmail.com.

7. Account and data deletion

You can request deletion of your account by emailing verifiedartisannigerialimited@gmail.com from the address linked to your account. We'll delete your personal information except where we're required to retain it (for example, financial records for tax purposes).

8. Children's privacy

Verified Artisan is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and database-level access rules that restrict who can see what (for example, only you and an admin can see your own profile; an artisan can only see the location of a customer on an active job with them, not any other customer). No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if how we handle your data changes, and update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
